Experience the highlights of the natural wonders of Costa Rica’s rainforests, volcanoes, beautiful views of waterfalls, rivers and beaches. Discover the wonderful world of wildlife and vegetation refreshed by gentle tropical rains.Learn about the rich Costa Rican culture and history by experiencing the beautiful museums and historical sites of San José.
Day 1: Sunday – New York - San Jose – San Lorenzo
Leave New York for your flight to Costa Rica. Upon arrival to San Jose Airport, we will meet our local guide who will take us to our hotel & resort, right in the center of a cloud forest. The region possesses beautiful and varied scenery and the land stays green and humid all year round.
Day 2: Monday –Trails – Canopy Tour
Your day will begin with guided trails, where you can see monkeys, birds, and other kinds of animals while getting explanations from guides about the animals, trees, flowers and orchids. Enjoy the beautiful view of waterfalls and the river. On the Canopy tour, you will see the forest from the top of the trees - more than 500 acres of forest with amazing view 9 cables, 10 platforms, 3 trails, 2 hanging bridges, and 1 Tarzan swing -Total of 845m. Then proceed to discover the wonderful world of wildlife and vegetation, amazing canyon, the Balsa River, hidden lake and the Cacique Mountain with its magnificent views.
Day 3: Tuesday –Arenal – La Casona – Baldi hot springs
Continue to Arenal area which is located in the northern part of the Alajuela province, close to the Nicaraguan border. This region possesses beautiful and varied scenery. Refreshed by gentle tropical rains, this land stays green and humid almost all year round. The lowlands host gushing rivers, hot springs, lagoons, remote national parks, and plentiful wildlife. We will visit a farm at the gates of La Casona, a place full with history, culture and traditions. Hear about the large and interesting history of the place. After a short walk through the location, we will visit the sugar cane mill, where we will share a little bit more about this monument to the Costa Rican rural worker. Learn about the process of the sugar cane mill as it was a bit more than one hundred years ago. Once the visit to the mill has finished, receive a short lesson about making traditional coffee.
Moving forward with the tour, a tractor pulled wagon will start the journey through the real Costa Rica. During this trip watch different plantations and at the same time they will enjoy the scenery that, among other things, offers the warm greeting of the always modest villager. Upon our arrival to the town school, you’ll be received by the students and enjoy a traditional dance and music that has been prepared by them. The tour goes on to our next stop, a local farm where we will be meeting Don Dago and his family. Here we will learn about organic farming and the traditions of the Costa Rican family, we will plant a tree and then go back to La Casona. At the end of the day enjoy the thermal water of Baldi hot springs.
Day 4: Wednesday – Arenal – Fortuna Waterfall – Natura – Hike Arenal
After breakfast we will drive to Fortuna Waterfall. Those that hava a hearty sense of adventure can swim in the chilly water below the fall. Others can the rocky shoreline or a round of nature photography – indeed, it’s hard to take a bad picture in a place as beautiful as this. The trail runs through pasture and rainforest, offering up chances to spot toucans, monkeys, and other tropical creatures. We will continue to Arenal Natura Ecological Park you will have the opportunity to experience the natural world in a whole new way, where beautiful frogs, birds, reptiles, and their natural habitats will have the starring role. We are located in a gorgeous section of the tropical rainforest, at the base of the majestic Arenal Volcano, home to a large quantity of species of flora and fauna which, with the help of our guides, will give you a new way to view and enjoy these impressive, complex worlds. We will hike through the forest to get to the lava flow, plants. wildlife and Arenal Lake. We will see and hear the glowing rocks of lava tumbling down of the mountain.
Day 5: Thursday– Arenal - Monteverde – Night Tour
After breakfast depart towards Santa Elena & Monteverde area. Breath-taking views of the Gulf of Nicoya and the islands below will accompany you as you ascend the hill to Monteverde and Santa Elena. An upward road leads to this forest-covered site whose name, which means "Green Mountain", is most appropriate to introduce visitors to the wildlife sanctuary it preserves. The community, secluded on a 1400 meter-high (4594 ft) plateau, was founded in 1951 by a group of North American Quakers. Although some of the original virgin forest was cleared for dairy farming, the founders’ environmental consciousness, together with help from private organizations, led to the creation of a biological preserve that hosts one of the richest ecological systems in the country. We will proceed just before nightfall for our Monteverde Night Tour, we will get and opportunity to observe the nightlife of a growing forest, we will walk the trails surrounded by thick jungle where you can observe sleeping birds, tarantulas, spiders, grasshoppers, crickets, lizards, frogs, sloths, porcupines, white nose coatis, olingos, kinkajous, snakes and much more.
Day 6: Friday – Monteverde – Hanging Bridges – San Jose
Start the day with the hanging Bridges, 1.9 mile trail that cruises through the forest; along the trails the visitor will find each of the eight different Hanging Bridges that compose this bridge system. The lengths and heights of these bridges vary between 170 feet and 560 feet in length and heights between 40 feet and 260 feet. Continue to San Jose and proceed on a sightseeing tour of the city. This tour immerses you in the rich Costa Rican culture and history by experiencing the beautiful museums and historical sites of San José. It begins with an orientation and drive through the beautiful Sabana Park. Next, we will take a walking tour through the historic National Theater. Completed in 1897, the theater is a masterpiece in art and architecture. Afterwards we will visit one of the most unique museums of Costa Rica – the Gold Museum. We will continue heading to the University of Costa Rica, the Supreme Court and various sites of interest and proceed to visit the Jewish Community Museum which was founded in 2005 and is attached to the Costa Rican Jewish Zionist Center. Transfer to Hotel.
Shabbat services followed by Shabbat dinner
Day 7: Saturday – San Jose
Following Shabbat Services at the Synagogue and lunch at the community center, enjoy a walking tour of the area.
Day 8: Sunday San Jose – Manuel Antonio - Jungle Crocodile
Today after breakfast we will continue to the central pacific coast where Manuel Antonio is located. Manuel Antonio is undoubtedly one of the most luxuriant locations in Costa Rica, with spectacular white-grey sandy beaches fringed by thickly forested green hills. On the way the adventure takes place on the Tárcoles River, one of four rivers flowing out into the Nicoya Peninsula, and home to one of the world’s largest crocodile populations in the wild with individuals up to fifteen feet long. In addition to the crocodiles, over fifty different kinds of birds can be seen on site, including the very rare scarlet macaw and a great variety of resident and migrant waterfowl. Iguanas and Jesus Cristo lizards are very common as well. On the way downstream, the boat heads along the Estero Guacalillo, a most awesome mangrove ecosystem that features four different species of mangrove trees.
Day 9: Monday – Manuel Antonio National Park
in the morning, we will visit the Manuel Antonio National Park, a spectacular natural beauty and peaceful atmosphere that attracts many visitors . The Park, preserves not only beautiful beaches and the unique formation of Punta Cathedral, but also mangroves, a setting of islands off shore, and a humid tropical forest. The park has four beaches, each with its special characteristics. You will follow a professional guide through one of Costa Rica’s most famous National Parks that gathers numerous species of butterflies, monkeys, raccoons, coatis, agoutis, two - toed sloths, snakes, orchids, etc.
Day 10: Tuesday – San Jose – New York
Transfer back to the int’l airport for your flight home.
